Maps were printed courtesy of the GIS unit and their plotter.
We radio ops were cautioned not to interfere with the working of any of the units. I dearly wanted to snoop around the GIS unit but I stayed away. This unit produced maps which clearly showed every track, gully and road in this area. Each shift a volunteer from the Corryong area worked in the ICC as 'local knowledge'. These people were invaluable by providing advice for getting the dozers and PIGs to the right ridge. battleboard at the ICC It must have been difficult for them to hear that properties (buildings and animals) of their families and friends were besieged by fire. This, to me, is what Country Victoria is all about. Courage despite catastrophe. |
