The publicity unit  provided information to the media, such as the ABC,
about the current status of the bushfire effort.

The information unit had two managers while I was there. They performed so many tasks with such finesse!

One day the air cleared. Amazing -- I could see a mountain outside the window. I had had
no idea it was there. On that day the Unit received many calls about smoke plumes in
backyards and paddocks. "I think a fire is starting here!"

The publicity guys informed the local folks that the fires were out -- not starting again --
and that the plumes were the smouldering parts of fires put out.

None of this had been visible until the smoke haze cleared.
