The publicity unit provided information to the media, such as the ABC, about the current status of the bushfire effort.
The information unit had two managers while I was there. They performed so many tasks with such finesse! One day the air cleared. Amazing -- I could see a mountain outside the window. I had had no idea it was there. On that day the Unit received many calls about smoke plumes in backyards and paddocks. "I think a fire is starting here!" The publicity guys informed the local folks that the fires were out -- not starting again -- and that the plumes were the smouldering parts of fires put out. None of this had been visible until the smoke haze cleared. |
