Weather conditions had an enormous impact
on firefighting.

Weather reports came at regular times from Rex on Mount Granya. It was part of our duties to log them and the Corryong permanent staff gave us instructions on how to do that. These reports were then given to Division and Sector Commanders. There were also PAWS, which were portable weather stations.

Depending on the severity of the fire, the lists of Commanders got larger or smaller. Someone published these lists and we each had a copy. When calls came in from a particular name, we could refer to the lists.
